Well firstly, it’s got nothing to do with Halloween or magic or ladies in pointy black hats…
Witch Hazel is a compound derived from the leaves, twigs and bark of Hamamelis virginiana, a type of shrub that is native to North America.
The first successful, mass-produced American skincare product containing Witch Hazel debuted in 1846 and was called “Golden Treasure” (oooh fancy.) It was based on wild-harvested witch hazel following the use of the plant for its healing properties by early settlers and Native Americans.
Witch Hazel contains chemicals called tannins. When applied directly to the skin, these magical (ok, not magical) witch hazel tannins may help reduce swelling, help repair broken skin and fight bacteria.
We decided to use Witch Hazel in Mind Your Tone following late night research sessions where the product specialists read through reams and reams of documentation citing the beneficial uses of Witch Hazel as part of a healthy skincare regime.
